Set Up Show Options
There are two ways to view your presentation in PowerPoint:
- We have already discussed the first way. Either Slide Show>View Show,
clicking the shortcut key F5, or clicking the slide view button at the bottom
of the screen
.
- The second option is the Slide ShowSet Up Show command. The Set Up Show
command presents the Set Up Show dialog box. The dialog box offers more options
and gives you better control over your presentation than the Slide Show view
button. In fact, the real purpose of the Slide Show view button is to preview
your presentation during the creation and editing process. When it comes time
to actually give the presentation, first use the Slide ShowSet Up Show command
to set up the desired options for your presentation. Then, to actually run
the slide show with these settings, use the Slide Show>View Show command.
To open the slide show options dialog box, click Slide Show>Set up Show:

This will open the Set Up Show dialog box shown below:

Show Type (Ways to Run the Slide Show):
Depending on your needs, you can run a slide show three different ways:
- Presented by a speaker (full screen) the most common method:
Click this option to run a full-screen presentation, usually with a speaker
who directs and controls the show the presenter has complete control of the
show and can run the show automatically or manually use this mode when you
want to project a slide show on a larger screen
- Browsed by an individual (window):
Click this option to run a smaller-screen presentation; for example, one that
is browsed by an individual over a company network The presentation appears
in a smaller window, with commands available for moving through the show and
for editing, copying, and printing slides in this mode, you move from slide
to slide by using the scroll bar, and you can have another program open at
the same time. You can also display the Web toolbar so you can browse through
other presentations.
- Browsed at a kiosk (full screen):
Click this option to run a self-running presentation, for example, at a trade
show or open house. You will need to set up timings for the presentations
via Slide ShowRehearse Timings. First there are options so that you can set
up.
Show Options:
- Loop Continuously Until Esc:
PowerPoint will run the entire slide show from beginning until end, and then
loop back and repeat; looping will continue looping until you press <ESC>.This
is the default for Browsed at a kiosk. If this is not checked,
the slide show will automatically end with the first click after the last
slide "Do you have narration recorded?"
- Show without narration:
T to turn off narration for this showing use the command Slide Show>Record
Narration
to record voice over narration.
- Show without animation:
Turns off animations for this showing.
- Are you going to doodle?
Use the Pen color: drop-down list to choose the pen color. You can then draw
directly on the slide. Youll need really good hand-eye control to draw
with a mouse, though. You can erase your drawing by typing the letter [E].
To get out of pen mode, hit the [esc] button. Be sure to hit [escape] only
once, because if you hit it twice, youll be dumped completely out of
your show and back into the slide-editing mode.
Advance Slides:
- Manual gives you complete control of the presentation
- Using timings, if present if you have planned and timed your presentation.PowerPoint
automatically advances the slides based upon the timings you have previously
specified.
